The Greene County Historical Society Board of Directors is pleased to anounce the hiring of a new Executive Director, Mr. Matthew W. Cumberledge effective January 8, 2019. Matthew is an avid local historian and researcher with a keen interest in preservation. His hobbies include studying Revolutionary War history and local Native American archaeology. The Brave, Pennsylvania resident was instrumental in preserving two local historic cemeteries and has assisted on numerous research projects and publications highlighting the history of Greene County, Pennsylvania. He is eager to bring his skill set and passion for history to this position. He looks to continue providing assistance to residents, visitors and governmental officials with preservation and research projects.
The Greene County Hisotrical Society's mission is to promote an appreciation of Greene County history through the preservation and interpretation of local artifacts and stories in order to educate the public and future generations through a narrative of the rich heritage of Greene County and its surrounding areas.
