Stone to Steel: Native American Heritage Weekend

Saturday, August 3 & Sunday, August 4 10:00 am-3:00 pm

Come out to the Greene County Museum the first weekend of August to be transported 2,000 in the past to experience pre-contact Native life in Southwestern PA and the surrounding areas. A temporary Native American village with Native American re-enactors will demonstrate activities including flint knapping, cooking, and more! This Greene County event gives unparalleled insight into the life and culture of Natives in our area before European settlement.

 

Additional activities include:

  • An archaeological dig by the Westmoreland Chapter of the Society of Pennsylvania Archaeology.
  • Display of relics from the Abel/Colley Tavern by the Mon/Yough Chapter of the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology.
  • Civil War demonstrations conducted by the 140th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry.
  • Local produce and lunch options for purchase by the Fencerow Farmers Market.
  • Insight on how to learn more about your ancestors who, at one time or another, may have resided in or around Greene County by the Cornerstone Genealogical Society.
  • Blacksmiths demonstrating their craft with heated metal over an anvil.
  • Game Commission Educational Trailer with information on the wild birds, wild mammals, and their habitats.
  • Tours of the 52-room Greene County Historical Museum including the Native American and Guest Collections.
  • Vendors include crafts, natural arts & crafts, and more!
  • Tour the railroad on Sunday, August 4! The coach will be open as well as the engine house to view the steam locomotive and Plymouth.
